Connie and I are working in Charleston, South Carolina for Discovery Service Projects. We are repairing homes of poor people in the Shalom Zone, a targeted redevelopment area. We work with a coalition of five Black churches. The Church ladies of the African Methodist Church have us for lunch on this day. I draw them as they prepare our meal. It is southern cooking with fried chicken, beans, collard greens and biscuits. We are working 8 to 10 hours a day putting on a roof.
