The Diary Project was started on July 1, 1997. 365 paintings were made between July 1, 1997 and June 30th, 1998. Each painting measures approx. 7" X 11". The paintings chronicle the artist's life during that year. The paintings were done on wood and paper using oils, watercolors, and gouache. The Diary follows the artist through a bout with depression, the death of his dog, travels to Mexico and South Carolina to build housing for the poor, the sale of his studio and home for the past twenty years and his daily life with his partner, Connie Coleman.
